1. It’s the Law

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires facilities open to the public to be accessible to people with disabilities. Compliance isn’t optional—it’s a legal obligation.

2. Promotes Equal Access

ADA compliance ensures everyone, regardless of ability, can enter, navigate, and use your facility. It supports basic rights like access to services, jobs, and public spaces.

3. Reduces Legal and Financial Risks

Non-compliance can lead to lawsuits, fines, or costly remediation. Staying compliant protects your organization from avoidable legal trouble.

4. Improves Safety

ADA guidelines often overlap with good safety practices. Features like ramps, handrails, and clear paths reduce the risk of trips, slips, and falls for everyone.

5. Expands Your Reach

Accessibility allows you to serve a broader audience—including people with disabilities, seniors, and families. That means more customers, employees, and community engagement.

6. Demonstrates Inclusivity

Complying with the ADA shows your organization values inclusion, equity, and respect. It strengthens your brand and builds trust with the public.

7. Supports Future Growth

Many accessibility upgrades add long-term value. They make your facility more adaptable, welcoming, and ready to serve diverse needs as your organization grows.

This checklist helps you identify and correct barriers to access in buildings already in use. It focuses on the most commonly used areas and features of a facility.
