Switchboard Maintenance Checklist
Performing Switchboard Maintenance Checklist using eAuditor & audit inspection.
Visual Inspection
- Exterior Inspection:
- Check for physical damage to the switchboard.
- Ensure the switchboard is clean and dry.
- Verify that all covers and doors are secure and properly labeled.
- Look for signs of overheating or burning.
- Interior Inspection:
- Open the switchboard and inspect the interior.
- Check for dust, dirt, and debris, and clean if necessary.
- Inspect for signs of moisture or corrosion.
- Ensure all components are securely mounted.
Electrical Inspection
- Connections:
- Tighten all electrical connections.
- Check for signs of loose connections or frayed wiring.
- Inspect terminals for signs of overheating.
- Busbars and Cables:
- Inspect busbars for signs of overheating, corrosion, or damage.
- Ensure all cable connections are secure and show no signs of wear.
Functional Testing
- Circuit Breakers and Fuses:
- Check the condition and operation of all circuit breakers and fuses.
- Test circuit breakers manually to ensure they trip and reset properly.
- Inspect for correct rating and compatibility.
- Relays and Contactors:
- Test relays and contactors for proper operation.
- Inspect for signs of wear or pitting on contacts.
Safety Devices
- Ground Fault Protection:
- Test ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) and ground fault relays for proper operation.
- Overload Protection:
- Verify the settings of overload protection devices.
- Test operation to ensure devices trip at the correct settings.
Insulation Testing
- Insulation Resistance:
- Perform insulation resistance testing using a megohmmeter.
- Record and compare readings with manufacturer specifications or previous records.
Environmental Control
- Ventilation and Cooling:
- Check that ventilation systems are operational and not obstructed.
- Ensure cooling fans are working correctly and clean any filters or grilles.
- Heating:
- Verify the operation of any heating elements to prevent condensation.
Documentation and Reporting
- Record Keeping:
- Document all findings, including any issues and corrective actions taken.
- Maintain a log of maintenance activities and schedule regular inspections.
- Issue Reporting:
- Report any major issues to the appropriate personnel immediately.
- Schedule follow-up inspections or repairs if needed.
Safety Precautions
- PPE and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO):
- Always use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures before starting maintenance.
Periodic Review
- Regular Inspections:
- Schedule regular inspections based on the environment and usage (typically every 6 months to a year).
- Review and update the checklist as needed to incorporate new standards and practices.
